BOXER Equipment | Big Power In All Places

History of Boxer Equipment

In 2000, Mertz Manufacturing had developed their own mini skid steer, the BOXER. BOXER had a unique track undercarriage that allowed the unit to contract from 44.5” to 34.5”. This feature gives the operator the ideal loader to gain access to gates or openings that are 36” wide. Since that first unit was introduced to the US, the BOXER Equipment line now represents three different sizes (small, medium, and large), each size offers gas and diesel engines.

The BOXER mini-skid is an innovative machine that reduces the costs of performing key tasks and the process of improving the environments in which people live and work. By replacing hand labor as well as larger more expensive machines, the BOXER provides a cost-effective, terrain-friendly solution for landscapers, irrigation contractors, plumbers, electricians, and property owners as they dig, trench, till, auger, demo, place materials, and perform dozens of other tasks.

All BOXER models are built to handle a full complement of over 50 universal mini-skid attachments for a variety of industries, including full size attachments like a 36” auger or 48” trencher.  All of these attachments are available from BOXER Equipment and its dealer network.  The BOXER’s standard quick attach system enables the user to quickly and easily switch from a bucket to forks to auger or other tools for optimum on-the-job flexibility and bottom line performance. Current specifications, attachment information and videos are available at www.BoxerEquipment.com.

History of Mertz Manufacturing, LLC

Mertz Manufacturing, LLC celebrated its 83nd year in the manufacturing industry in 2010. Mertz is continuing to build upon its past successes by focusing on a future oriented towards continuing to produce high quality products, retain and recruit a skilled and dedicated workforce, and satisfy the manufacturing needs of both new and repeat customers.

The company had its beginning in 1927 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Originally owned and operated by Roy Mertz, the little, one-man machine and welding shop soon earned the enviable reputation for the manufacture of precision products. Roy, a perfectionist, skillfully crafted metal fabrication orders for industry and the public.

After returning from World War II, Forrest and Don Mertz worked under the watchful eye of their grandfather and in 1948 they purchased the company from Roy. Carrying on the tradition of excellence, the brothers eventually outgrew the shop their grandfather had founded and in 1968 they built a new plant, moved to their present location and became Mertz, Inc. The plant has been expanded numerous times over the years and presently covers over 165,000 square feet. In 1996, Forrest Mertz purchased his brother’s half of the business. In 2004, the name was changed to Mertz Manufacturing, LLC when it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Compact Power, Inc., based in Fort Mill, South Carolina. In 2010, Mertz Manufacturing, LLC once again became a stand-alone company.

Mertz Manufacturing, LLC continues to design, fabricate and manufacture durable, innovative and high-quality parts and equipment for a loyal customer base. Its products include well servicing equipment used in oil and gas production, components for servo-hydraulic seismic vibrators, parts for large construction equipment, compact utility loaders, and mini-excavators. Recently Mertz has worked with customers to design and manufacture equipment that is taking the company in several new directions.
